My mother was looking at pictures of the Troutman building and was wondering if anyone had pictures of the building when a Semi truck hit it. Please post if you do. Thanks!

One had a great feeling when moving around in that store.

I remember how the sales clerks would hand write your sales receipt, then put it, with your money into a tube, which was then inserted into a pipe that would carry it to the office. When it came back, you would get your change and your copy of the receipt.

If I am remembering correctly, back in the 1960s Troutman's had two elevators. One was self-service, but in the other there was a person who rode the elevator operating the buttons and opening the fancy interior door to let shoppers on or off the elevator. Always thought that gave Troutman's the feel of a big city department store since none of the other stores had an elevator operator. It seemed to set them apart. Nice store to shop in.

This picture dates me. My memory of Troutman's--going back to the 60's--is of a building covered with silver/gray tile. Still, I remember many of the things mentioned about the inside of the store. Nice place, part of the old Butler.

IT IS NOW A MOTORCYCLE SHOP AND THEY HAVE HUNDREDS OF OLD BIKES INSIDE.THEY SELL USED PARTS AND HARD TO GET ITEMS. ALL THE FLOORS ARE USED AND THE FAINT FEELING OF TROUTMAN DAYS ARE STILL THERE.

I have read almost all of the sections of this site. I think a lot of people need to just stop being so so nasty Just because our memories or ideas are not yours does makes them wrong. Such a crabby bunch you are. I love Butler, hate big cities and hate beaches. So don't that make me an idiot. I don't like all the drugs and trash that is in Butler but maybe if landlords lived in Butler they could see what is happening to their properties. Instead of free food and drugs to help them get off drugs why not give paint and yard tools to help clean up.

I was in Butler last weekend and noticed the bike shop painted the building, boy it looks a whole lot better than it has for years.

I worked in the credit office from Sept 1957 to Sept 1959. I remember those tubes very well. The holidays were crazy. There were 6 girls that worked the tubes. The tubes would get stacked up so high and the customers must have waited forever to get their change.

Notice the Hudson at the street curb. I had one just like that.

Wow! I was born in '48. I do not remember that facade. Great pic! Looked better then than it does now.

I recall in the basement of Troutmans during the 60s, at Christmas time they had a large fish tank where kids could fish for plastic fish that had prizes written on them, or something like that. Always liked Troutmans, and actually all of Butler, at Christmas time.

I moved to the Clarion area from Queens NY. I loved Troutman. Could always find whatever I was looking for didn't need to go to Pittdburgh. Butler was a nice town... good memories.
